well, I thought it would be, but he isn't listed in free agents yet. True, but it's the regular season now. Used to be allowed since it takes 24 hours after the last high bid.

Wally Bunker hasn't been released yet. Please wait for confirmation to start the bidding on him.

Good, I like this rule. Make the bidding wait until he shows up released in the file. That isn't a rule. The only time it was done this way was when teams got the five free releases during the last off season, and that was only to prevent confusion because there was so much going on with the file. At that time, teams also weren't allowed to bid on players they released, and that's not a rule either.

There are plenty of times when I am too busy to check this board every day between sims, and I am one of the more active owners. By allowing bidding on guys to start and finish between sims, I'd guess that at least half of the league will totally miss that the player was ever available.

During the regular season, there isn't a whole lot of time to pick these guys up and get any use out of them. Do you really think it would be any different waiting for players to hit the FA list during the season? I'm ten times more likely to see a release posted to the board than to open the FA list in-game once we're at April 1. Maybe we can notify the league by email when a player gets released? I've suggested that before, but the idea got shot down by several owners at the time.

Having a player miss at least one sim because of such a rule (if it existed) could have a big influence on division races.
We already have days between sims where people have time to release a player, sign one or even do both in time before the next sim. I wouldn't see a good reason why we should wait even more to bid on a player when he gets released.
It would probably be easier for someone to email the entire league about such stuff so that the ones that don't surf the boards daily can know about this stuff.
Otherwise, it's hard to do more for these guys. If some don't come here that often but do check out the file very scrutinously, others probably don't even download the sim every time.
But I'm curious to see what everyone has to say on this.

I think the e-mail rule would work well. That gets everyone notified, and would bring people to the boards.

I don't think we should email them at all. how long does it really take to look once at the boards?

Well, for you and me and a few others it doesn't take that long.
But the reality is, plenty of our owners do not do it.

I've suggested that before, but the idea got shot down by several owners at the time. Right, I agree that not a lot of owners would check the free agents list in the file. At least for me, I pretty much always come to the board on the day the file is released (to change lineups, see prediction thread, whatever). Once on the board, I would see if any new free agent bidding is going on. That was my intent behind the rule. So if there are sims Wed and Sat, I will almost for sure be on the board those days, but I may miss bidding it if happens all on the days between sims (say Thurs-Fri or Sun-Tues). Edited to add, I am also fine with the email idea.

Most days I check the board at least once, so it's okay with me if releases are posted or if there is an email sent or even if nothing official is done and we just have to check the file for new free agents after each sim.

I'm fine either way, I check the board every day however I rarely check the in game free agent list, whats the point theres no new players on there. Just the same ones as last sim more than likely
