This is being both emailed to the league and posted.
That subject line sounds way too self important, but that's my style (or lack of).
Terry and I have been involved in discussions about pitchers since almost two months ago. From the time he first brought it up to me, he was, and continues to be, in full agreement with me that going historical on pitches and ratings was how we had to handle the situation.
Terry was the first to notice, and was the first to bemoan the fact that Niekro didn't have a knuckleball. I immediately agreed.
The error came after Terry got back from vacation and saw the massive amount of work he had in front of him. He wanted to poll the league about a few other things, and accidentally threw the pitches/ratings issue on the fire. If you read his posts, you can see what his intentions were since the beginning: we go with historical pitches and ratings.
After some more recent discussion, Terry and I decided it would be best for the person already known to be a fascist pr!ck, me, to be the one to make the final decision about canceling the polls and letting it be known that we are following history to the degree that BBM 2k8 is able to reproduce it.
I'm sorry that some people will be upset about this, but fact is this is the way we were always going to do it. If things work well, we might even be able to reduce the limits I had to set on hitting in the test file.
Expect the new file to take some time getting out, and remember that, at the same time, we also have to resolve the financial problem the last patch caused us; assuming there isn't another patch that resets things back to where we were before.
