In a race that could not have been closer, Angels reliever Bruce Taylor comes out of a three-way race and earns the 1981 AL MVP award. Taylor collected 4 first-place votes, same as Mariners reliever Mark Clear who finished just behind. Brewers reliever Porfi Altamirano and Twins reliever Bill Atkinson each received 2 first-place votes. Dan Quisenberry, Bert Roberge, Roy Thomas and Bill Caudill each received one first-place vote.
