Heres the current vote for the all star roster. 32 spots for each league...why 32? i dont know but 25 is not enough. Each team has one representative at least.
AL
catcher
Porter boston
Pena detroit
Both are slugging over .500...porter has 11 homers, and pena is leading al catchers with a .328 average. No real 3rd choice here. Porter is the starter because of past reputation.
First Base
Thompson cleveland
Eddie murray seattle
Kent hrbek cali
Thompson and Murray have 16 homers, while Hrbek has 14. Thompson is starting b/c he is hitting .341 while slugging over .600. Some other guys were close, but these 3 are way ahead of their peers.
2nd base
Randolph cali
molitor minny
sandberg seattle
Randolph is hitting .340 and getting on base for the Angles' big boppers. Sandberg leads 2nd basemen with 9 homers, and Molitor is hitting .319 along with decent slugging. Trillo almost got a spot here, and if he had some more at bats he probably would take molitors or sandberg's spot.
Shortstop
Ripken seattle
Trammell kansas city
Ripken has 14 homers with 39 RBI's. His average .257 isnt great, but slugging as a shortstop is amazing. Collins of Cleveland was close to getting the backup spot, but the Royals needed a player and Trammell was as good as Collins.
3rd
Brett milwaukee
Howell minny
Brett is the only 3rd baseman in double digits in homers. He is also flirting with .400 average as his .376 average is amazing. Gaetti was close to being the back up, but the guy picking the lineups likes Howell a little bit more for some reason
LF
Henderson cali
gibson boston
rice oakland
Henderson is the best player in the league. One season he might win the Pentagon crown. Thats the triple crown plus runs and stolen bases. He hits for power, 12 hr's, and is a bona fide leadoff ace, 23sb/5cs. Gibson is the pro typical LF with 14 homers and a .269 average. Rice is the A's only all star representative, and he is one of TMBL's greats. He has 11 homers, and slugging over .500. I heard he asking to get traded to a contender for one last shot at another title.
Center
Ward* cleveland
Wilson seattle
Ward is going DH for the AL, and he is a much deserving DH. He cant field really, but .310, .576, and 14 homers are eye popping numbers. Wilson is there for his 14 stolen bases versus non caught.
Wilson toronto
Dawson chicago
Burroughs Minny
Plenty of choices to choose from. Armas, 14 homers, Von Hayes, .361 average, top 5 in OPS, and Roenicke, 12 homers, all missed the cut. Burroughs leagues the AL in RBI's with 47. WIlson has 43 w/ a nice .337 average. Dawson is slugging .535 on a pretty lethargic offensive team in Chicago.
Starters
Schrom minny
Darwin seattle
Cort cali
Langford minny
Parrott texas
Sorenson yankees
Harris milwaukee
Schrom 9-0 1.24, enough said. Any other season Darwin would look like the run away Cy Young winner at 8-2, and a mid 3 era. Cort is 7-1, while Langford is 7-3 and flirting with a sub 3.00 era. Harris is second in K's, with a 6-2 record and sporting a nice 2.53 era. Sorensen has 4 CG's and a 3.22 era...If he could get support his record would be much better then 7-6. Parrot is 6-3 w/ a 3.10 era on the Rangers, which is pretty amazing.
Relievers
Henke toronto
Pleasac minny
Quissenbery boston
Doug sisk baltimore
Taylor detroit
Henke 11 saves, NO blown saves with a 1.04 era. WOW, amazing. Plesace is 4-1 with 10 saves. Q from Boston has a 3-0 record, 6 gaves a 1.93 era. Sisk is there b/c who else from Baltimore is an all star? Taylor isnt a closer, but he is throwing heat. Tiger's closer Roberge is the AL leader saves with 11 and only two blown, but his mid 4 era with a over .300 batting average against led to him being left off the roster.
I'll do the NL later today, or tomrrow ;D
NL
Catcher
Diaz philly
Schroeder la
Diaz is hitting .345, and slugging .518. Schroeder's average isnt pretty, .256, but his 11 homers are leading NL catchers by 4. Some reporters think Dennis Littlejohn has a shot, well he doesn't. His average is good, .296, but only has 2 homers, slugging .376. This would be okay if he was getting on base a lot, but his OBA is .348. Nothing to me there is an all star, besides he has thrown out 53% of runners trying to steal.
First Base
Murphy philly
Fiala cincy
Guerrero pitt
Brock san diego
21 homers, 70 rbis and a .343 average??? OBA of .425??? wow Murphy has dominated this year. Fiala is hitting for a pretty high average and is 3 for 4 on stolen bases. Guerrero has 48 rbi's and is the most important(to me)hitter in pittsburgh's lineup. Brock is almost hitting .300 while having 14 homers.
2nd Base
Ray cubs
Wiggins montreal
Ray leads the NL second baseman by 9 with 41 RBI's on the year. He is also hitting .335 Hubie Brooks almost got a spot with his 8 homers, and .311 average but the backup spot went to speed demon Alan Wiggins. He's almost hitting .300 with 19 stolen bases in 24 attempts.
3rd
Wallach cubs
Franco philly
The cubs with their 2nd infielder starter. Wallach was the MVP last year, and hasnt dissapointed this year, .301/.415/.519, 9HR's with 41 RBI's. Franco got the spot as the backup, but there was plenty of competitition. Franco has had 10 errors in 50 games at third this year. With an almost same batting stats, Pendleton was very close to being picked. Also Bill Madlock had some consideration.
SS
Ramirez st. louis
Yount philly
Hitting .362 Ramirez is the starter. Some could make the case, Dale Berra of the Cubs should be in the all star game and shoul be the starter. Critics will point to the two players OBA. Berra has a .319 average but has a higher OBA then Ramirez .394 Ramirez to Berra's .409. Yount leads the NL shortstops in slugging, .494, which is the main reason he is on the team.
LF
Leonard atlanta
law san fran
Law is 23 for 25 in stolen base attempts and is almost batting .300. Leanords OPS is .932 which amazing for 200 at bats plus.
CF
Gilbert atlanta
Lynn cincy
nixon houston
mcghee cubs
RF
Lezcano pit
Murphy* philly
Starters
Miller Cincy
Thumosgood la
Sanderson san fran
Wilkins montreal
Bedrosian la
Hesketh atlanta
Relievers
Ladd cincy
Diaz pitt
Lacy san diego
Hernadez la
Brown mets
Ladd has 14 saves and only 2 blown, while Diaz has 11 with a 2.16 era. Lacy has 11 saves, 1.04 era and NO blown saves...wow. Brown is their b/c who is an all star in New York, maybe Harold Reynolds, but Brown pitching good on a bad team with a 3.11 era and a 5-2 record.
AL
catcher

Pena detroit
