Okay, time to establish the finances settings and move on.
League revenues will be set at +90%. The tests we ran showed us that it’s at that level that our revenues are the closest to what they were in 2k4.
As for salary demands, we are setting them at -10%, with 3 negotiations allowed.
Generally, the first offer you submit forces the player to lower his demands, sometimes by a lot. After that, he still might lower them, but not as much. By the third offer you submit the player, either he accepts your offer or you accept HIS demands.
Example #1:
Expos IF Gary Sutherland wants 5.65M for 3 years.
My offer #1: 4M x 7 years; he lowers his demands to 4.05M x 7 years.
My offer #2: 3.7M x 7 years; his demands stays the same, but he adds a 1 year player option.
My offer #3: 4.2M x 7 years; he accepts.
Example #2:
Expos P Woodie Fryman wants 5.65M for 3 years.
Offer #1: 3.6M x 3 years; he now wants 5.1M x 3 years.
Offer #2: 4.9M x 3 years; he lowers to 4.9M x 3 years with 3 years of player option.
Offer #3: 5.1M x 3 years; he accepts.
There are examples where you won’t need to raise the third offer. Some players are willing to lower their demands a lot, others will do it just once. In some other cases, they don’t even want to listen to you.
Three negotiations should be quite enough. With the -10% and the 3 negotiations, salary demands usually get lowered by more or less 1.5M, depending on the players.
Of course, every re-signature will need to be posted, including your 3 offers. You can sign the player without negotiating if you want (or if he refuses to lower his demands). At the time of the 3rd offer, you have to clearly state to me whether the player accepts your offer or if it is you that accepts his demands.
As some owners have pointed out, we are not getting the exact same numbers. I have no reason as to why is that. Again, make sure that you are running on patch V. 10.31, but I did notice that owners with the very same version than I had slightly different numbers.
In the examples given by Rich of the Cardinals, though, the salary demands from his players were slightly different on my computer. But the final numbers his players signed for were identical. If there are differences in the future in some cases, they should be insignificant.
As for player or team options, you are free to use them, but I would advise against it. The thing is, even if we don’t offer them those options, players sometimes include them in their demands after you’ve hit them with your first offer.
IMPORTANT: Please remember that we are switching versions and therefore, no rules will be set forever. We are going to try this way of re-signing players, but if we realize with experience that it has major weaknesses, we will be able to change the settings. The 1970 season isn’t going to be perfect; we didn’t switch game versions; we took a dinosaur version and replaced it with one from the future. We have to expect that some stuff isn’t going to be perfect.
