The following information is both posted on the board and emailed.
We have 18 owners who say they'll be with us in 2k11, one of whom still needs to get the program.
The remaining owner hasn't visited the board the past several days, but we'll assume that he's been busy or sick or something.
The league will be playing the 1987 season in 2k11.
However, 1987 will be a sort of test season for us. If we don't get replacements or caretakers for the open teams, or if we lose more owners, we'll need to reevaluate things and some kind of change will be made, even if the change is only that I get replaced and the rest of you carry on with what you have left.
We'll deal with that when or if the time comes.
How we'll be proceeding with the version change:
Terry will be running playoffs meetings as usual. After the WS, owners will have 4 days to finish re-signing or releasing contract year players. The cutoff date for that is 1pm eastern on Monday February 7.
After the cutoff, I'll import the 2k10 file into 2k11, make the adjustments I've been testing over the last few months, then advance the file to April 1st and post it. Expect this to take between two and five days after the re-signing cutoff.
The only part of the settings that I'm not certain about are the finances. These might require additional tweaking, and that's a large part of what I'll be testing before I post the 2k11 file.
NOTE 1: I suspended the cash cap for one season in 1986 to avoid screwing up team expanse spending rankings. The cap will be back in 2k11 as follows:
Soft cap will be set to 100M. The soft cap is a point where the game slows down team earnings, but doesn't completely stop it from making more money.
Hard cap will be set to 150M. The hard cap is the point where the game stops adding any additional cash to a team's total.
NOTE 2: Player talent limits will be set quite high, but won't completely avoid re-ratings of some players. This is not under my control, will be semi-random, and should, in theory, effect all teams equally. In theory.
If a team has a very high rated player who is very badly damaged due to switching to 2k11, the team will be allowed a free release for that player.
I'm not setting a limit on releases, and I'm not giving free releases to all teams to use whatever way they decide.
Free releases will be allowed on a case by case basis where it can be clearly demonstrated that the player was downgraded only because of switching to 2k11, and that if we had stayed in 2k10 it wouldn't have happened. I have copies of 2k10 run ahead files, and I'll use them to check 2k10 talent ratings on players submitted for a free release.
Once again because this is important, that means nobody gets a free pass to drop players who would have crashed anyway who were signed overly long contracts to get a better deal or beat out others in free agent bidding.
This will be allowed over one full season, from April 1 1987 through to April 1 1988, since version change re-ratings will not necessarily be immediate.
I'll be posting this information again, along with any other changes, when the 2k11 1987 file is posted in a couple of weeks.
This thread remains open for comment and questions.
