So I'm on christmas vacation from school pretty bored out of my mind, so I thought I'd try and start something cool that maybe I'll keep doing depending how well I do them and how well people enjoy them. Feel free to throw in pointers that maybe you would like to see in next weeks rankings to improve them from my current format.
June 3rd Power Rankings
1. Chicago White Sox- The White Sox come in at #1 in this weeks power rankings and have taken 16 of their last 20 games and currently hold on to the top record in all of baseball at 38-18. Over this 16 game winning streak they swept the Yankees and Orioles at home. Keep in mind, they are doing this in the toughest division in baseball as well. Andre Dawson finally decided to join the team and has hit .390 in his last 10 games with 5 home runs and 13 RBI.
2. Minnesota Twins- The defending champs Minnesota come in at #2 in this weeks power rankings claiming the 2nd best record in all of baseball at 37-21 winning 14 of their last 20 games including sweeping the Orioles in Baltimore. They are currently 2nd in the AL Central which is the toughest division in baseball. 3B Roy Howell has picked it up lately batting .421 in his last 10 games.
3. Philadelphia Phillies- The Phillies come in at #3 in this weeks rankings also claiming hold to the 2nd best record in baseball at 37-21. The Phillies have taken 12 of their last 20 games which included sweeping the Cubs at home. Oscar Gamble has been a big part of their success hitting .421 and belting in 12 RBIs in his last 10 games.
4. Pittsburgh Pirates- The Pirates come in at #4 with a 33-23 record. The Pirates have taken 13 of their last 20 games which included sweeping the lowly Astros in Houston. Kip Young is leading this team with a 2.95 ERA and a 10-2 record and 71 Ks.
5. San Francisco Giants- Coming in at #5 is the Giants who have also taken 13 of their last 20 games which included sweeping the Mets at home. The Giants are currently in tied in first place in the NL West with the Dodgers with a 33-24 record. Jack Howell has carried the team as of late hitting .424 and belting 13 RBIs in his last 10 games.
6. Toronto Blue Jays- Toronto comes in at the 6 spot this week after winning 12 of their last 20 games which included taking 2 of 3 from the Twins at home. The Blue Jays currently are atop the AL East with a 33-22 record. Jose Barrios has taken this team on his back as of late hitting .324 and batting in 9 runs in his last 10 games.
7. Los Angeles Dodgers- The Dodgers come in at #7 this week while winning 12 of their last 20 games which included sweeping the Reds in Cincinnati. The Dodgers are currently tied with the Giants atop the NL West with a 32-23 record. Randy Bush has put this team on his back as of late hitting .400 and belting 4 HRs with 8 RBI in his last 10 games.
8. Detroit Tigers- The Tigers come in at #8 riding a 4 game win streak and taking 12 of their last 20 which included sweeping the Brewers at home. The Tigers currently sit in 2nd place in the AL East 4 games behind the Blue Jays with a record of 29-26. Alvin Davis has been crucial to their current winning ways hitting .459 and belting 5 Hrs with 11 RBI in his last 10 games.
9. Seattle Mariners- The Mariners come in at #9 this week winning 11 of their last 20 games including sweeping divisional opponent Oakland at home. The Mariners currently sit atop the AL West with a 28-28 record. Eddie Murray has been beasting as of late hitting .368 with 12 RBIs in his last 10 games.
10. Cleveland Indians- The Indians come in at #10 this week winning 11 of their last 20 including taking 2 of 3 from the Tigers. The Indians currently reside in 4th place in the toughest division in baseball, the AL Central with a 29-27 record. Recently acquired Brick Smith has been letting the team down hitting a measly .205 with only a solo shot in his last 10 games.
11. Milwaukee Brewers - The Brewers come in at number 11 this week winning only 10 of their last 20 games and are currently on a 3 game slide while being swept by the Tigers. The Brewers currently sit in 3rd place in the vaunted AL Central with a 31-26 record. The Brewers are seemingly throwing in the towel trading Leon Durham and there are rumors around that they are shopping Greg Harris, their stud SP. Depsite all of this, Fred McGriff has been tearing it up lately hitting .417 belting 5 HRs and 11 RBI in his last 10 games.
12. Texas Rangers- The Rangers come in at #12 this week winning 11 of their last 20 games including taking 2 of 3 from the best team in baseball in Chicago. The Rangers currently sit 1 game back in the NL West with a 27-29 record. Mario Ramirez is single handedly trying to keep the Rangers in the race hitting .364 and knocking in 7 runs in his last 10 games.
13. Atlanta Braves- The Braves come in at #13 this week despite only taking 9 of their last 20 games, though recently sweeping their division rival Reds in Cincinatti. The Braves currently sit in 2nd place in the NL Central behind the Pirates with a 31-26 record. Glenn Davis has been letting the Braves down lately only hitting .216 in his last 10 games.
14. St. Louis Cardinals- The Cards come in at #14 this week winning 11 of their last 20 games despite losing 3 of 4 from division leading Phillies. The Cards currently sit 10 games back of the Phillies and reside in 3rd place in the NL East with a 26-30 record. Dave Baker is trying to carry this team hitting .469 with 5 RBIs in his last 10 games.
15. San Diego Padres- The Padres come in at #15 this week winning only 9 of their last 20 games which includes losing 3 of 4 in San Francisco to their division foe, the Giants. The Padres currently sit 4 games back in 3rd place in the NL West trying to cling to a playoff spot with a 29-28 record. If they are going to go anywhere, they will need more production out of Mike Sciosia who is only hitting .167 with 3 RBIs in his last 10 games.
16. Baltimore Orioles- The Orioles come in at #16 this week riding the longest winning streak in baseball of 5 games, though only winning 8 of their last 20. The 5 game win streak includes sweeping the A’s in Oakland and taking 2 of 3 from the Indians in Baltimore. The Orioles currently sit in 3rd place in the AL East 8 games back of the Blue Jays with a 25-31 record. The Orioles have been riding Darryl Motley during this 5 game win streak who is hitting .353 with 6 RBI in the last 10 games.
17. California Angels- The Angels come in at #17 this week winning only 9 of their last 20 games which included losing 3 of 4 to division foes, the Rangers in Texas. Despite their recent woes, they sit tied in 2nd place with the Rangers only 1 game back in the AL West with a 27-29. Believe it or not, they’ve been riding Rickey Henderson as of late who is hitting .421 with 3 HRs and 12 RBI in his last 10 games. However, if they are going to go anywhere, Kent Krbek better step it up after hitting a measly .162 in his last 10 games.
18. New York Mets- Coming in at #18 is the Mets who have only won 9 of their last 20 games including getting swept by the Pirates at home this past weekend. The Mets currently sit 9 games behind the Phillies in 2nd place in the NL East with a 26-28 record. The Mets were so disappointed in Claudell Washington’s recent woes only hitting .190 in his last 10 games, they shipped him off to division rival, Phillies for a 2nd round draft pick.
19. Montreal Expos- The Expos come in at #19 riding the longest current win streak with the Orioles of 5 games, though only taking 9 of their last 20 games. Their current win streak has been attributed to a sweep of the Astros in Montreal and taking 2 of 4 from the Cubs in Montreal. The Expos are currently sitting in last place in the NL East with a 23-33 record. Ivan DeJesus has taken this team on his back as of late hitting .419 with 6 RBIs over his last 10 games.
20. Chicago Cubs- The Cubs come in this week at #20 winning only 9 of their last 20 games including being swept in Philly. The Cubs currently sit 8 games back of the AL Central leading Pirates with a 25-31 record. Pretty much the entire team is hitting sub .215 in the last 10 games highlighted by Dale Berra’s sub par performance of hitting .121 with only 3 RBIs.
21.New York Yankees- Coming in at #21 this week is the New York Yankees who have only won 9 of their last 20 games including being swept in Chicago by the White Sox. The Yankees currently reside in last place in the AL East with a 24-32 record, 9 games back of division leader Toronto. Sap Randall has taken this team on his back as of late hitting .389 with 9 RBI in his last 10 games.
22.Cincinnati Reds- The Reds come in at #22 this week winning only 8 of their last 20 games including being swept by the Braves and Dodgers at home in consecutive series. This has resulted in the Reds being in last place in the NL Central sitting 8 games behind the Pirates with a 24-31 record. The Reds can thank Mike LaValliere who is only hitting .188 with no RBIs in his last 10 games, and Fred Lynn who is only hitting .184 with 4 RBIs in his last 10 games, for this current losing slide.
23. Boston Red Sox- The Red Sox come in at #23 this week winning a measly 5 of their last 20 games. This included being swept by the Yankees in New York and losing 2 of 3 in Kansas City to the lowly Royals. Despite their woes, The Red Sox sit in 4th place in the AL East, 8 games back of the Blue Jays with a 25-31 record. The Red Sox can thank Buddy Bell for his piss poor performance over the last 10 games hitting a mere .162 with 0 RBI and only 1 run scored.
24. Kansas City Royals- The Royals come in at #24 this week winning only 7 of their last 20 games including being swept by the Brewers in Kansas City. The Royals currently sit 19 games out of the AL Central with a 19-37 record. There has been one bright spot as of late however, as Ron Shepard has hit .436 with 6 RBI over his last 10 games.
25. Oakland Athletics - Coming in at #25 this week is the A’s who have lost a horrendous 6 games in a row, and only winning 5 of their last 20. Their current losing streak can be attributed to being swept in Seattle and at home against the Orioles. The A’s currently sit at the bottom of the AL West with a 20-35 record. John Rabb has been trying to get this team back in the win column as of late hitting .324 with 7 RBIs in his last 10 games…but he can’t do it alone, obviously.
26. Houston Astros - Last…and least, the Astros round out the bottom of the power rankings this week riding a 4 game losing streak and only winning 6 of their last 20 games. Their current losing streak can be attributed to being swept in Montreal. The Astros round out the bottom of the NL West with a league’s worst 17-38 record, almost exactly opposite the league’s best record held by the White Sox of 38-18. Greg Vaughn and Mickey Tettleten have both been laughable as of late hitting .091 and .074 respectively in their last 10 games.
June 3rd Power Rankings
